In 1922, James West borrowed on his insurance policy to buy a plumbing truck and open a small plumbing store. During the heart of the depression, in 1930, he purchased a building in Los Angeles on the corner of 76th and Vermont where he displayed plumbing fixtures and appliances. The business continued to grow through the depression and the World War II era. In 1955, James West sold his company to his son, Jim, who expanded the company by purchasing a second store in Lomita, California. The company thrived throughout depressions, recessions, and civil unrest. Under Jims management, Jimmie Wests bright orange trucks became a recognizable symbol of stability and reliability in the plumbing industry. 1983 brought another change when Jim sold the business to his son J. Michael. Michael has worked in the business since an early age; one might say "from the ground up" since he labored digging ditches during high school. At Jimmie West, we recognize the importance of continuing education in a changing world. To keep themselves at the forefront of the new products and techniques, all employees are involved in continuing education to be able to improve their skills. Every aspect of the business has changed dramatically since the 1920s when Jimmie West plumbers rode the streetcar with their tools in a carpetbag. Over the past 80 years, the company has expanded beyond only plumbing to include heating, air conditioning, air duct cleaning and air purification service, while maintaining the standard of excellence synonymous with Jimmie West. The same standard of workmanship, integrity, and fairness and continue to uphold these high values. Today our technicians provide service for some of the grandchildren of James Wests first customers. These people have remained loyal over these 80 years due to Jimmie Wests tradition of high quality work at a fair price. |
